When we want something deep in our bones, it is surprisingly easy to stay busy with things that are *close* to what we want, but miss the target.
This is especially common with successful, high-achieving individuals. They are adept at getting things done, but can unknowingly fall into a cycle of faux action when it comes to goals outside of their comfort zone.
Faux action can look like:
This is a dangerous state to be in.
Faux action gives us just enough satisfaction in working towards our goal, but also keeps us from doing the things that will get us real results.
We can stay in this zone for years.
The first step of making any change is awareness. Being able to identify faux action is key.
From there, give yourself a chance to reset. Ask yourself, if I really want this [new business, partner, lifestyle], what is the most direct next step to take?
If it sounds like something you want to avoid or put off for another day, congrats! That’s the sweet spot where all the growth happens.
And if taking that step brings up a lot of resistance, that’s normal and to be expected – and a sign you’re on the right track.
I love teaching clients how to spot faux action in their lives, lean in to the resistance that comes up, and transform their mindset around who they truly are.
Identifying and removing these hidden behaviors and beliefs that keep us stuck is liberating. Learning this process is how we achieve our biggest goals and desires.
